Dr Rice, a native of Washington D. C., pursued an undergraduate major in Philosophy and pre-medical studies at Clark University in Worcester Massachusetts.

He then returned to Washington and took a Bachelor of Science in Physiology at Georgetown University, staying on there for an additional four years to earn his M.D. degree.

His year long Internship in Medicine was taken at the Washington Hospital Center, followed by a three year Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

During his residency, he developed a major interest in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment. He was privileged to be the first doctor to take a Glaucoma Fellowship with Dr. Robert C. Allen, a pioneer in the medical and surgical treatment of Glaucoma.

His current focus is on the use of emerging laser technologies to more effectively treat the many forms of glaucoma and in exciting new surgical techniques to restore vision after cataract surgery with much less dependency on eyeglass correction.

He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member in good standing of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Maine Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the New England Ophthalmological Society.
